Successful HOYS for TopSpec
29th October 2009
Once again this year the Horse of the Year Show saw a host of major successes for horses and ponies fed on products from the TopSpec range.
This year the show belonged to Jayne Webber after taking three championships and the overall Supreme Horse of the Year Championship. Jayne started out her successful week taking the Coloured Championship with The Humdinger owned by Carol Bardo and Mandy Hughes. Then it was the the turn of Jayne’s other cob The Keystone Cob, owned by Carol Bardo, to have his time in the limelight after taking the top spot in the Heavyweight Cob class before clinching the Cob of the Year title.
However the icing on the cake came when Jayne secured the Supreme Horse of the Year award riding Carol Bardo’s, grey Large Riding Horse, The Philander after taking the Riding Horse championship earlier on that day. The Philander has had an amazing run over the last two years with wins including the Supreme title at the Royal International Horse Show last year and the Supreme title on the opening night at the 2009 British Show Horse Association Championships.
Other winners on the flat included Jill Day’s bay gelding Pride and Joy II ridden by Robert Walker, who took the Middleweight Hunter title for the second year running.
Native specialist Sam Roberts continued her winning ways after taking the New Forest and Connemara section on Lady Vestey and Henrietta Knight’s, Lecarrow King, in the Mountain and Moorland Ridden Pony of the Year section.
In the working hunter pony classes Paula Seedhouse’s Springfield Park Razzle produced a foot perfect clear to take the exceeding 122cm and not exceeding 138cm section of the Mountain & Moorland Working Hunter Pony of the year title ridden by Katy
Seedhouse. It was Springfield Park Razzle’s second appearance and second win at HOYS after taking this title in 2007.
Sunday saw the turn of the Open Working Hunter Pony classes. The 2009 Royal International Horse Show winner Stambrook Pavarotti ridden by nine-year-old Emily Ward produced one of only four clears to take the top spot in the 148cm class. The 16-year-old pony is owned by Kelly Ward and Brian Lears and they have had a fantastic season after taking the Supreme Working Hunter title at the BSPS Summer Championships.
Sasha-Leilya Plavsic ended her career in the 15hh working hunter section on a high with Noble Millionairess after winning first place. Their plan is to compete in Intermediate Working Hunter classes in 2010.
From the working hunter ring to the show jumping scene, TopSpec-fed horses and ponies proved they were tough to beat. More Than Milton was crowned the 138cm champion.
Paul Barker rode brilliantly on Anderida Anica to win the hoys.co.uk Cup. The 12-year-old grey mare, owned by Lynne Barker, had a great show.
