The 2010 NPS/TopSpec Supreme Dressage Championships held at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre was once again a huge success.

Qualifying rounds ran throughout the winter months with the best combinations going through to the TopSpec supported Championships where many top class performances were in evidence throughout a very busy day.

The NPS/TopSpec Supreme Championship went to Rebecca Newson riding Sue Norris’s eight-year-old Dales pony Slateyford Rhona.

With an impressive win in the M&M Preliminary and a creditable third in the Novice, Rebecca went through to the NPS/Topspec Supreme Freestyle to Music final.  

Choosing the music Portsmouth in support of her favourite football team, who also won at Wembley that day, Rebecca kept to the nautical theme with Yellow Submarine and Blue Peter.  The combination clearly impressed the judge, Laura Bechtolsheimer at their first musical attempt.

Said Rebecca: “I was delighted with the win, I can’t believe it.  I am so pleased for Sue who has worked so hard with Rhona.  The mare had been on the go all day and was starting to feel a little tired and I wasn’t sure how she would perform.  It was amazing being judged by such a successful dressage rider as Laura.”

Slateyford Rhona was bought as a wild yearling off the hills and has been patiently brought on by Sue and Rebecca.  

Initially bought to help the rare breed, the mare has also gone on to be a great success in the show ring and will now try her luck in the jumping arena

Added Sue:  “The long term plan for Rhona is to breed from her and to help this versatile breed get the recognition it deserves.”

Reserve Supreme went to Angharad Harries riding Correllian Jacob with 1st Reserve going to Rebecca Edwards on Valentino’s Royal Touch.
